Scarlet is a renowned speaker, author, award winning songwriter, podcast host, professor of songwriting at Berklee College of Music, and cancer survivor.

In her new book, What if It All Goes Right: Practicing Hope in the Hardest Times, Scarlet wrote the book she wished had been written for her to read while facing her hardest thing; breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

This is not a book about cancer but flashes of memoir are woven throughout the pages of this gem of a book with a focus on how music heals, the power of community, nature and friendship on our health and wellbeing and how humor, joy and even laughter are not only invited guests but are necessary companions for anyone facing their hardest thing to hold the lantern and light the unknown.

In this little gem of a book, she kept the chapters short and easily readable. This is a book to keep by your bedside or buy for a friend to open to any chapter when they need to be uplifted or encouraged throughout the day or any time they need a little light.

Hope doesn’t belong to the naive optimist, it belongs to the bold brave realist. Hope is a badass and these pages feel like they were written by a neuroscientist, life coach, comedian, enlightened-ish optimistic memoirist and teacher.

In her healing workshops, Scarlet combines elements of an interactive mixed media show with interactive exercises from her book, live music, comedy, and readings. She leads with vulnerability and raw honesty helping participants navigate life’s challenges—ranging from minor inconveniences to major crises—through hope, poetry, and laughter.

Scarlet speaks to corporations, using techniques developed by hit songwriters to teach valuable tools such as empathy, leadership, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. These workshops demonstrate how music can ignite creativity and cultivate the essential skills needed for innovation and problem-solving.

She’s a little bit California meets east coast with a bit of Nashville in the mix and offers.

With Scarlet’s guidance, your team or audience will leave energized, inspired, and equipped with a fresh vision—whether the focus is on corporate leadership, team building, or providing much-needed inspiration for healthcare workers and patients.

What if it all goes right?

New book excerpt

Radical hope is sometimes what we need the most—fierce and active, made of willpower and grit. Bursting with possibility in the direction of the best possible outcome. Sure, hope can feel like a glittery concept that belongs to Pollyanna or Hallmark cards, in the same trite/cliché category as “Cheer up!” or “Hold on!” It can feel distant as the moon—far out of reach. But being hopeful is a little bit badass. It is brave and beautiful to be hopeful. Just reading the word “hope” makes us feel better. But beyond its mere existence, hope needs to be busy doing things and making plans to make the situation better or to reach a goal. Hope shares the same air as Optimism, but it is more grounded in reality.

Hope doesn't belong to the naive optimist, it belongs to the realist and the brave.
